Camp ‘Can’ Do

For over 25 years, Camp ‘Can’ Do continues to be an overnight summer camp for burn survivors ages 6 to 17 in South Carolina. Camp provides burn survivors with transformative experiences that build friendships, develop life skills, and foster a can-do attitude. Burn nurses and medical staff, firefighters, and former campers volunteer their time and energy to this great week every summer for burned children campers.

Burn-Injured Children & Family Support

A severe burn requires emergent, specialized treatment at a regional burn center. Burn-Injured children are quickly transported from a local hospital to a regional burn center, with a family caregiver following the child’s transport to the burn center. Once admitted to a burn center, SCBCF provides support to the burn-injured child and their family.

Arriving in an unknown city, navigating a large burn center, and ensuring the care of their burn-injured child can be overwhelming for a parent. The SCBCF Comfort Kit is designed to provide some basic comforts for the child’s parent in the first few days at a burn center. The kit includes hygiene supplies, travel blanket and pillow, caregiver support information, and information about the SC Burned Children’s Fund. Comfort Kits are provided to the SC Pediatric Burn Center at MUSC-SJH in Charleston, SC and Doctors JMS Hospital Burn Center in Augusta, GA.

Continued support of burn-injured children and their families is provided because burns require multiple out-patient burn center visits. Additional support from SC Burned Children’s Fund includes travel assistance, connecting with other burn survivors and caregivers, specialty burn-care garments, and other miscellaneous needs.
