The South Carolina Burned Children’s Fund is seeking qualified and motivated fire service members to serve on and support the Board of Directors within the following roles:

A Regional Director and Deputy Regional Director job description entails actively participating in an organization's governance by attending meetings, contributing to strategic decision-making, overseeing the organization's mission, participating in the organization’s programs, fundraising, and advocating for the organization's goals, all while serving without receiving monetary compensation; essentially acting as a guardian of the organization's vision and values by providing guidance and expertise on a volunteer basis. These roles are a great opportunity to develop executive level experience through one of South Carolina’s most impactful extensions of the fire service. Key responsibilities of a member of the SCBCF Board of Directors:

  • Strategic Planning: Participate in developing and implementing the organization's strategic plan, setting goals and objectives.

  • Financial Oversight: Review financial statements, approve budgets, and ensure the organization's financial stability.

  • Fundraising: Actively participate in fundraising efforts by soliciting donations, identifying potential donors, and attending fundraising events.

  • Program Evaluation / Participation: Assess the effectiveness of the organization's programs and services, identifying areas for improvement, actively participate in organization’s programs.

  • Board Meetings: Regularly attend board meetings, actively engage in discussions, and contribute to decision-making.

  • Community Outreach: Represent the organization at community events and advocate for its mission.

  • Committee Participation: Serve on committees focused on specific areas like development, marketing, or program delivery.

  • Compliance: Ensure the organization adheres to all relevant legal and ethical standards. Qualities of a good member of the SCBCF Board of Directors:

  • Passion for the Mission: Strong commitment to the organization's cause and goals.

  • Leadership Skills: Ability to contribute thoughtful ideas, facilitate discussion, and make informed decisions.

  • Communication Skills: Effective communication with other board members, staff, and external stakeholders.

  • Time Commitment: Willingness to dedicate 2 to 4 hrs./week +/- to board activities.

  • Professional Expertise: Relevant experience and knowledge that can benefit the organization.
